Just wanted to put this up before the premiere came on tonight and ruined my timeline.

Title: No One Else Can Break My Heart Like You
Character(s)/Pairing: Callen/ Nell
Rating: T?
AN: Betaed grammatically by [personal profile] carolinecrane This story is not for bingo, I hope you like it!

The man she loves has been arrested. She and anyone with a tv just watched him shoot Marcel Janvier. Shock doesn’t even begin to cover what she’s feeling right now. She will go home tonight to an empty house. She hasn’t lived in an empty house since they moved in together about a year ago. She wonders if he will get visitation, because there are things that need to be discussed. She understands why he did what he did. She knows the hurt and frustration he’s dealt with, that they’ve all dealt with, in this case. She just wishes there could have been another option. An option that didn’t land him in prison for the foreseeable future.
She takes a seat and watches as they escort him in. He sits down opposite her and they both pick up a phone.
“Hey, I’ve missed you,” he says, not really knowing where to start. He won’t apologize because he would do it again in a second.
“I’ve missed you, too. It’s been lonely at the house without you. How are you doing?” She’s not really sure where to start either.
“I’m alright, I mean orange isn’t really my color, but it’s easier to decide what to wear every morning. Whoa, hey, it’s okay,” he says because as soon as he says the word morning she bursts into tears. He’s never actually seen her cry.
“It’s actually not okay. You’re in prison for who knows how long. You can’t get bail because you shot an unarmed man on live television. I’m pregnant. And Hetty resigned.”
“Wha...? Did you just say...? Nell, what are you saying?” He stumbles through words, only sort of grasping at the right ones.
“I was hoping to tell you over a nice dinner or at least at home, but I guess over the phone with a plexiglass divider at the local high security prison will have to do.”
“How long have you known?” he asks, still a little stunned.
“Um, well I suspected a couple of weeks ago, but I just found out for sure the day before you were arrested. You seemed so stressed I wanted to wait until the case was over to tell you that your life was probably changing in a pretty big way. Unfortunately, you beat me to changing your life,” she says tears back in her eyes.
“What are we gonna do, babe?”
“Well, you’re going to be locked up for the next twenty-five or so years and I don’t know what I’m going to do. I don’t know if I can keep my job at OSP.”
“Hetty would never fire you for being pregnant,” Callen says with confidence.
“Hetty resigned and no one’s been able to find her since she left the building two days ago. Granger’s in charge now. And if I’m not able to properly do my job he has every right to let me go. I can’t be there at all hours of the day and night anymore. As much as I hate it, I’m probably going to have to move back home.”
“Home as in out of California? Nell, no! We’ll figure something out.”
“G, you’re in prison, I’m not going to be able to stay in my current job and be a single parent. What do you want me to do? All parents make sacrifices, mine are just going to be a little different than I planned,” Nell said sadly.
