More NCIS bingo things

Title: Badge
Character(s): Deeks/ Kensi
Word Count: 247
Part 1/4

Marty Deeks didn’t sleep much last night, so when he finally got up he had plenty of time to go surf and clear his head. Today was going to be unusual. Today would change his life. He knew he was making the right decision, but that didn’t keep him from worrying. After today he would no longer be a cop. He would hand in his LAPD badge and get one from NCIS. He would be a federal agent; the words sounded foreign on his tongue. He had never felt at home until he came to NCIS.
Obviously growing up in an abusive household and after shooting his father, he ended up being more of a parent to his mother than she was to him. The other law students didn’t go out of their way to make him feel welcome. And being an undercover cop hadn’t endeared him to the LAPD. But Hetty, Callen, Sam, Eric, Nell, and especially Kensi had become his family. He and Kensi had talked a lot about what becoming an agent would mean for not just him, but them. However, neither of them could imagine having another partner and the fear that he could be pulled back to go undercover without the team for backup made the decision that much easier. So, today he was no longer going to be a cop. And after he handed in his badge he was going to go pick up the ring he had bought for Kensi.

Part 2/4

She wasn’t strong enough for this. She had barely made it through losing her father at fifteen, and almost fifteen years later she was losing the man she loved the most all over again. Deeks was dead. She couldn’t wrap her mind around that. It wasn’t even in the line of duty, it was car accident. How messed up was that? He had been undercover hundreds of times with drug dealers and gun smugglers, but the thing that ended his life was a drunk driver. He was on his way to her house with pizza and beer when a drunk driver ran a red light. She moved into Deeks’ apartment and kept Monty. Poor Monty was constantly looking for Deeks. It was heartbreaking to see him scan the beach for someone he would never find while they were out for walks. She hadn’t been much of a beach person before, but now she went there every day just to feel closer to him. Losing him felt like losing a piece of herself. She honestly wasn’t sure how to go on.
She had been nervous his last day, so she had been short with him, but asked him to come over for a movie to apologize. She was going to tell him she was pregnant. She knew he would have been excited; even though his parents were useless, he always had a way with kids. She was hoping his excitement would temper her nervousness about being a mom. Now he was gone, so she was going to have to go through it all alone. She hadn’t told the team yet. She had a piece of Deeks left and she didn’t want to share that, just yet.

Part 3/4

Kensi didn’t sleep and she had a hard time keeping food down, although she knew she needed to take care of herself. She found the Tiffany’s ring box as she was going through his things the week after his funeral. She and Deeks hadn’t talked much about the future; she was happy not labeling their ‘thing’. He had tried to bring up marriage, but she had shut him down because of her past experiences. She just needed time to get used to the thought of being engaged again. She had no idea he had actually bought a ring. She wondered how long he had kept it in his drawer. She wondered when he would have given to her. She remembered the first time they had talked about rings, years ago when they were simply work partners. “You have no idea what that little blue box means to a girl,” she had said. He had looked over at her and smiled, “oh, but I do”. He had told her later that that was the girliest thing he had ever heard her say, but he remembered and he had gotten her a little blue box that he knew would mean the world to her.

She walked into the bullpen for the first time since Deeks died. This was the last place she had seen him.
---
She had been sick his last morning and the three before it. She had gotten a pregnancy test the night before, but was too scared to take it. She didn’t want to know for sure, she just wanted one more night without knowing. But that morning she knew she needed to find out. Of course it was positive, she had known it would be. She didn’t know how to be a mom, but she knew Deeks would make her feel better. But she couldn’t tell him at work, she needed to wait.
Deeks was bouncing off the walls when he showed up after turning in his badge at LAPD. He wouldn’t stop talking and it was more than she could take right then, so she snapped at him. He got that hurt puppy dog look and went to the gym to work off some of the energy. By the time he came back to the bullpen, Kensi was on her way out. She apologized and offered her house for a movie. He was going to stop by his house to feed Monty, get beer and pizza. As she was leaving he caught her hand and turned her to face him. “Hey, I’m sorry for upsetting you earlier. I love you, Fern. I’ll see you soon,” he said kissing her and then letting her go.
---
That was the last thing he ever said to her. The drunk driver hit him on the way to her house that night.
