{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Mine were quotes and this will be the 7th entry:

Politeness is deception in pretty packaging. -Veronica Roth (Divergent)

Withholding words is the same as lying. -Veronica Roth (Divergent)

I used two quotes today because to me they are very similar. Divergent is the first in a wonderful teen trilogy, that I highly recommend. I copied the following from the wikipedia entry because it explains it better than I could:
In the distant future, the city of Chicago has divided society into five separate fractions, each one meant to uphold a particular virtue of humanity: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). On a given day each year, all 16-year-olds must take an aptitude test that tells them which faction they truly belong to. After taking the test, they can decide whether or not to transfer from their faction to a different one for the rest of their lives.

I have found that most people can't see which faction they would choose. I had no problem at all. I would be Candor. Hands down. I am not saying that I haven't ever lied or that I don't lie in certain situations. But if we are friends and you ask me a question, I will tell you what I think. Things are messed up in this world enough and I don't want to have to worry about people lying to make me feel better. I am surprised sometimes at how much easier communication is when you are honest with people about what you want. I am not normally taken by surprise about what people think of me because I try to be very honest to myself and about myself. Sometimes honesty hurts but that is never my intention, I just have a hard time not saying what I think out loud.

Liz Lemon (30 Rock): "No, I'm not trying to be nice. I *am* nice. I'm a nice person, you bald gangly-" (clears throat)...(pleasantly) "I'm gonna try harder. I'm gonna try to be nice."

I don't have words for how much I love Liz Lemon. I also have felt like this on many occasions. I always feel that I would be a much nicer person if I didn't have to deal with certain individuals on a near daily basis. I know it would probably shock you to learn that some people I work with think that I am a heinous bitch, because I want everyone to follow the same rules. I am not a rules lawyer+ , but for goodness gracious sakes I'm not asking you to leave someone bleeding on the floor of your house, just let me know if you have appointments in a timely manner.

+Rules Lawyer is a term for people who (when they play D&D or any game that has a game master) will go against said game leader at every turn when the game leader is just trying to keep the story going. They are very frustrating.

Willow (explaining what to do on a date with her best friend): "Then talk. Keep eye contact. Funny is good, but don't be glib. And remember, if you hurt her, I will beat you to death with a shovel....
A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend. Have fun."

I always loved Willow the most from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The first years where she was shy and nerdy and they were in high school, I felt just like her. Then, and I'm sure this is not the popular opinion, but I felt like they changed the whole character to match up to something that didn't make any sense. She had been in love with her male best friend for her entire life and then she dated Oz for years, but suddenly she was gay. There was no confusion, just this is it. Also, if I were to classify what I thought she was (even though she had never shown an interest in girls that way at all), I would say bi. I know a lot of people who are gay/bi whatever. I have no problem with whoever you want to love. I'm saying they wrote the character badly in that sense.

Also, A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend! I always like to be very specific with cause/effects.

Shirley: [excitedly] Guys, guys, do you know I actually have a civil case against that bitch that stole my husband?
Jeff: Shirley, don't sue a stripper.
Shirley: Why not?
Jeff: She's a stripper: life sued her, and she lost.

This is from a tv show called Community. I had heard of it, but never seen it and someone said they thought I would like it. I asked for the first season for Christmas and Patrick and I loved it so much, we went out and bought the second season by New Years. Eric Christian Olsen guest starred on a few episodes (mostly with his shirt off) and sang. Also, I feel like I would be Shirley in this situation and I would want someone to talk me down, because Jeff is right.

Here are youtube videos of ECO singing, it's just audio with a picture of the cast, but it's still funny. The first one is Annie's Song and is completely fine.

The second while not unsafe for work, might be a little inappropriate for work. It's called Getting Rid of Britta.

I'm not offended by all the dumb blonde jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blonde.
-Dolly Parton

While I am not what you would call a fan of country music, I love Dolly. She is who she wants to be no matter what. She also doesn't take herself too seriously. I don't know how familiar people 'not from around here' are with her. She grew up a county or so over from where I live and she has an amusement park in that area called Dollywood. Dolly wrote 'I Will Always Love You' that Whitney Houston sang for The Bodyguard movie.

I don't know where you get to that point in your life. Your walking around your house one day going, you know what, I'm so damn right about everything I'm gonna start taking calls.
-Kathleen Madigan (a comedian, referring to Dr. Laura Schlessinger, once they found out she wasn't a doctor)

I love Kathleen Madigan, she is very funny. I am picky sometimes about what I think is funny, but I have yet to not laugh at something she has on a special or cd. I also think that I could probably take calls, I mean at least I tell people the truth. ;-) Sorry for the short explanation today, my pregnancy induced carpal tunnel is causing me fits.

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

Benjen Stark: You know, my brother once told me that nothing someone says before the word "but" really counts.

This is a quote from Game of Thrones the tv series, it also might be in the book, but I'm not far enough through them to verify that. I love this because I have a tendency to be very blunt so I usually just skip whatever other people would put before the 'but'. It's so very true!

I also want to point out that these quotes will probably not be inspirational at all. They will mostly be things that made me laugh or reminded me of me.

I think I'm going to do quotes. I have a book of quotes (mostly from books and tv shows that I love) that I've kept for over a decade. I can tell you what I like about each quote. I will try to put a warning on the ones that could be offensive. Hopefully I'll get this going sometime this weekend, but more than likely it will be Monday.

{Take the 100 Things challenge!}

I really want to do this, but I'm having a hard time coming up with a topic. I thought about books and I have plenty I could review, but it's been so long since I've read some of them I don't know that reviewing them is a good idea. I don't cook so recipes are out. I might could do 100 crazy stories (that are real), but I would have to make sure everything is locked down, because a bunch of them would be from work. Thoughts? Suggestions?
