Title: Elevator (Free)
Characters: Tony/ Ziva
Spoilers for episode 9.24
Word count: 333
They should not have gotten in the elevator. That was the last thought she had before she lost consciousness. It was just so automatic, neither one even questioned taking the stairs. When she opened her eyes next, it was dark and she could feel debris everywhere.
“Ziva,” Tony says with the desperation of someone who has said her name numerous times without an answer.
She takes a deep breath. “I am okay,” she says, taking inventory of her small injuries. “Tony, are you hurt?”
“Well, I’m hoping the lights are out, otherwise I think I might be blind,” he says, trying to seem normal, “Zi, are you really okay, your breathing is really shallow.”
Trying to concentrate on getting English out instead of Hebrew, she says, “I am not hurt badly. I am trying unsuccessfully to not have a panic attack. I have been unable to enjoy being in the dark since I returned from Somalia.”
Tony immediately grabs her hand. “What do you need me to do?”
“Talk to me. If I can concentrate on something other than the darkness I should be able to regulate my breathing.”
“Do you think everyone else got out?”
“Okay, talk about something other than the explosion.”
“Palmer’s probably getting married right now. I would be in a pastel tux and you would be in a festive little dress. We would be on the beach with the waves crashing, watching our little autopsy gremlin marry the woman of his dreams. And Zi, can you imagine Abby’s toast.”
Ziva started to smile thinking about Abby giving a formal toast.
“I would have asked you to dance. Would you have danced with me?”
“Of course, Tony.”
“Then we would have danced until it was late and then walked on the beach. I would have given you my jacket and put my arm around you, because there would have been a chill. Then when we were a little tipsy from champagne, I would have leaned in to kiss you.”
Title: Morgue
Character(s): Ducky
Spoilers: same as above
Word Count: 237
It was three months before Ducky made it back to the morgue -- or what was left of it -- after his heart attack. He had been rushed to the hospital after a lifeguard called for an ambulance. They ended up doing open heart surgery and he was forced to rehab in Florida for a few weeks. Palmer and Brenna stayed with him until he was able to make the trip home.
When Ducky finally got to see the building they were already working on the repairs. From the damage he was shocked to learn that there were no fatalities. The majority of people were evacuated. Ducky never imagined that when he left for Palmer’s wedding that so much would change before he was at home in the morgue again. The morgue was spared from complete destruction because it had no windows. However, the blast damaged the building enough that no place was spared completely.
Palmer was asked to take over as medical examiner until Ducky was back to good health. But Ducky, who understood the human body better than so many, knew that with the damage done and at his age, he would no longer be able to be the full time medical examiner. It was decided that Palmer would be hired as the main medical examiner and Ducky would go into partial retirement. It broke Ducky’s heart, but he knew Palmer was more than capable.
Title: Lab
Character(s): McGee/ Abby
Spoilers: same as above
Word Count: 241
Tony and Ziva were trapped in the elevator for almost 10 hours. Tony had to be hospitalized for tests to make sure his lungs were not further damaged by the dust and particles flying around. Ziva stayed at the hospital to keep him company, something about returning a favor. Gibbs was on his way to Florida to be with Ducky.
McGee and Abby are back work. What that means now is clean up. They are both moving a little slow because of bumps and bruises, but they were rescued rather quickly. Gibbs had told them to go home and get some rest, but they both knew that no sleep would come. Instead they are slowly sifting through what used to be a lab. McGee is sweeping up the carpet of glass that litters the floor, while Abby checks each machine. She also has to document each evidence bag that had been in the lab at the time of the explosion.
After the second time that Abby falls asleep standing up, McGee picks her up and carries her to his car. She wakes up as they pull up to his apartment.
“I thought about taking you home, but Abby, I just really don’t want to be alone tonight.”
“No, Timmy, you made the right call. Would you mind if we talked for little while before we go to sleep? I think there are some things we should get out in the open.”

Date: 2012-10-26 05:32 pm (UTC)Poor Ducky. It's hard knowing you can no longer do what you used to.
I love Abby and McGee together. I'd love to see that happen on the show. :)
